Hey Ann,
What is it about clammy, overcast days and the need to cocoon. Why is it that the moment the temperature drops, oh, say, 10 degrees, we develop an urgent desire to stay inside, surrounded by comfort food, ambient lighting and a good book. Or movie. Or just whatever happens to be on television. Is it some weird nesting imperative? I'll bet this sort of thing doesn't happen in California or Australia or other hot, sunny climates. No, these locations probably only drive people to siestas. Too bad things like "work" prevent us from giving into these innate urges.
So... Last night went out to say good bye to a friend who's off to Guatemala for 5 months on a volunteer project. This woman is very dedicated to community work and improving the lives of her fellow human beings. I find that, since moving here, I've discovered a number of similar kindred spirits. That's nice but I miss my irony enjoying friends from out East. People here are very earnest. Earnest = NO humour. Bah! Not to say Guatemala Bound Girl is without humor. She's one of the funniest people I've met. She has a high goofiness quotient which is important. I feel I often exceed my goofiness quotient but that's not too hard to do out here in the Land of the Earnest.
We're off to the night market again tomorrow for lots of good things to eat. And hopefully this time it won't take me two hours to get home. They had a nice
Chinese Chess game there last week for $12 so I might pick it one up if they have any left.
Must go--will check in again later. Stay dry!
